[ARCHIVED] Message from Mayor Emily Styron - March

Spring is about to burst! It’s time to grab a jacket and take a long walk, run or bike ride on our 20+ miles of trails and pathways. Exciting news arrived this week for Zionsville… Governor Holcomb awarded Zionsville our first Next Level Trails grant in the amount of $1,812,295. We are so grateful to Governor Holcomb and his team for their support of Zionsville’s proposal to build significant connection points from our existing trail system into neighboring community trails. This grant will enable us to extend the Big-4 Rail Trail in two directions: south to Zionsville Road and north from Heritage Trail Park to the common boundary with Whitestown. The grant application process included members from nearly every Town department including parks, public works, planning, finance and administration. I am so grateful for their efforts!

This past month I have had the opportunity to meet with many of our newest appointments to boards and commissions. Councilor Craig Melton seemed to be the common theme among several of the terrific residents I’ve met with this past month. From the start of this journey, I have appreciated the partnership approach Councilor Melton and the rest of the Council have taken towards building more opportunities to involve community members in meaningful public service at the local level. We have more than 100 community members engaged in a community service role. Most politicians talk about community engagement, but in Zionsville it is clear that your local government intends to fulfill on these promises.

I hope you continue to seek ways to be involved and share your input with my office and with our departments. As we work to get things done, we need our engaged residents to be there along the way, the helpers in our community and the positive forces for change. I look forward to seeing you on the Rail Trail or in our parks this month!
