Dear Zionsville,
Since COVID-19 demanded our attention nearly a year ago, my administration has maintained close communication with the Boone County Health Department (BCHD) to support their testing, vaccination and public education efforts to serve our community. From the start of this pandemic, my message has centered around… what do you need from the Town of Zionsville?
Our collective objective is to minimize the spread of COVID-19 and to fight this virus. The BCHD and our area hospitals are leading us through this moment in history, and I have full trust in the job they are doing. As a community leader, I understand that our job is to listen to the experts, to remove barriers as needed and to remain actively engaged with this network of health professionals as conditions can change quickly.
Currently, BCHD is running our county’s vaccination clinic at the Boone County Fairgrounds. They are running this site with utmost efficiency and care to visitors, and I am thankful for all they are doing. As of now, BCHD receives 1300 vaccination shots per week. If the state allocates more vaccines, BCHD will be able to deploy these vaccinations at the Fairgrounds where they already have established medical staff and volunteers in place. At the same time, Zionsville stands ready to launch an additional vaccination clinic, or “pop up clinic” if the opportunity is available and more vaccines are deployed.
Anything that the Town of Zionsville undertakes to help combat COVID-19 in our community will be done at the direction of our county health department and our state health department. We stand ready when called upon by the experts.
And personally, like many of you, when it’s my turn, I am ready to roll up my sleeve and do my part to put an end to this pandemic. This is our shot, Zionsville. The vaccine is safe and effective. When you encounter someone worried or unsure, help them learn more by sending them to the CDC’s Frequently Asked Questions about COVID-19 Vaccination. The vaccine is how we're going to defeat this pandemic and return to the “old” normal we all miss.
