[ARCHIVED] Zionsville Fire Department wears red to support troops

ZFD Wears Red

On Fridays, Zionsville Fire Department firefighters and staff participate in R.E.D. (“Remember Everyone Deployed”) Friday. R.E.D. Friday was established as a way to show support and solidarity for all military personnel. Zionsville Professional Firefighters Local 4416 has partnered with Zionsville Fire Department to spearhead the R.E.D. initiative.

ZFD employees have the option of voluntarily donating $2 on Fridays when wearing red shirts. This donated money is used on a quarterly basis to send care packages to deployed military servicemen and servicewomen. ZFD is seeking currently deployed servicemen and servicewomen to send care packages to. Those with family or friends currently deployed can share contact information with Firefighter/Paramedic Walter Leverich at wleverich@zionsville-in.gov.

“ZFD is honored to have 11 current firefighters who have served or are serving in the United States military,” said Zionsville Fire Chief James VanGorder. “The community is encouraged to join ZFD in supporting our troops by wearing red on Fridays and letting us know of any currently deployed persons.”
