[ARCHIVED] August Councilor’s Corner - Town Council Update

Zionsville

As has been necessary since April of this year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic the August 3 and August 17 Town Council meetings were conducted electronically via Zoom and were also streamed live on YouTube.

Here are some highlights from the August meetings and what it means for you:

  • An ordinance authorizing the use of purchasing cards by Town staff was passed.   Unlike a traditional credit card, the purchasing card is part of a statewide program which offers the benefit of all the State’s participating governments spend being pooled, resulting in a higher annual rebate for the Town.  Along with this increased revenue, use of the purchasing cards increases transparency, efficiency and accountability.
  • A resolution designating an economic revitalization area was passed, and a tax abatement agreement was approved.  These steps allow the Town to take advantage of economic development opportunities.  The planned Prologis distribution facility, located at the Northwest corner of County Road 550 and State Road 267, will entail approximately 47 million dollars in anticipated new real property improvements, representing a significant contribution to the Town’s tax base, as well as generating jobs for our community.
  • A salary ordinance amendment was passed adding the position of Chief Operator for the Town’s wastewater treatment plant, which will serve as second in command to the Wastewater Superintendent.  The position will be filled by a current plant technician who has achieved a level 3 certification for running a wastewater treatment plant.   His promotion to the position will help ensure operations run as efficiently and safely as possible.
