This morning Zionsville Police Chief Michael Spears met with the Board of Police Commissioners and obtained approval to appoint Marius Klykken to the position of Captain of Police. Klykken, a 10-year veteran, assumed his new duties following the meeting. Klykken will oversee Patrol and Support Services for the department.
The consolidation of these functions under one captain allows additional supervisory officers to return to patrol duties.
“My top priority is to ensure our town’s field patrol, supervisory positions and schools are fully staffed to provide the highest level of public safety and service,” Spears said.
Mayor Emily Styron supports Chief Spears’ emphasis on field patrol staffing.
“I am proud of the Zionville Police Department and their commitment to put the needs and safety of others ahead of their own on a daily basis,” Styron said.
Other Town leaders are supportive of the changes.
“Having our police out and interacting with the community is great to see, and I’m fully supportive of Chief Spears’ efforts,” said Zionsville Town Council President Josh Garrett.
“I appreciate Chief Spears’ initiative. I’m looking forward to seeing these changes implemented,” said Suzy Nagy, Chair of the Board of Police Commissioners.
Other changes within the department include:
- Executive Officer: Elizabeth Frost
- Administration Section Lieutenant: Drake Sterling
- School Resource Section Lieutenant: Adrian Martin
The department will soon begin recruitment for a patrol officer vacancy. Those interested should contact Detective Elizabeth Frost for details at 317-873-5967 ext. 4242 or email efrost@zionsville-in.gov.
