[ARCHIVED] Zionsville awarded INDOT Community Crossings Grant

Zionsville

UPDATE 4/22/20:

The Town is happy to announce that the bids received were lower than the estimates used to apply for the grants. Contracts with both the State of Indiana for the grant funds as well as with the contractor (Calumet Civil Contractors) are being prepared.

Given that the bids received were lower than estimates, the final funds received from the grant program will be reduced to match the true cost. The reduction in funds received does not impact the amount of work, only that it is being done at less expense to the town and the state. Based on current information, the funds expected from the grant program should be around $500,000 due to the favorable pricing received from the lowest bidding contractor.

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has awarded the Town of Zionsville a Community Crossings Matching Grant valued at $695,291.75. These funds will be used to reconstruct and improve local road infrastructure.

Zionsville will use the grant to fund four projects. All projects are repair and resurfacing projects, with the exception of Irongate Drive, which is a complete reconstruction project.

  • Irongate Drive: a full reconstruction that is a continuation of the systematic reconstruction of the old concrete streets in this subdivision and placement of new, asphalt roads.
  • Mulberry Street: a repair and resurfacing project that generally includes subbase repairs in failing areas, a 1.5” mill and resurface.
  • Ash Street from Mulberry Street to Maple Street: a repair and resurfacing project that generally includes subbase repairs in failing areas, a 1.5” mill and resurface.
  • Mayfield Lane: a repair and resurfacing project that generally includes subbase repairs in failing areas, a 1.5” mill and resurface.

Projects are funded with a 50-50 match, and the town must match the grant funding provided with local funds. The grant award is based on detailed estimates that Street & Stormwater Superintendent Lance Lantz provided in the application.

The bid opening for these projects is scheduled for April 9. The final amount provided by INDOT will be based on actual pricing received through this bidding process.

“Receiving this grant allows more roadwork to be completed as it frees up the local funding committed to these projects to be directed to other road repair and improvement needs,” said Lantz. “While it does not necessarily mean more road work will be initiated this year, it certainly adds to the reserves to be spent in future budget cycles or helps to supplement other current projects that may experience cost overruns. Regardless of the ultimate use of the newly-available funding, any infusion of outside dollars to our local efforts is beneficial. I am grateful for INDOT seeing fit to award the town funding under this annual grant program.”
