[ARCHIVED] Zionsville Fire Department announces new hires, promotions

New Firefighters

The Zionsville Fire Department announces the hiring of four firefighters, the promotion of two firefighters to lieutenants and the appointment of a battalion chief.

During the Oct. 7 Zionsville Town Council meeting, Mayor Haak swore in firefighters Christopher Kelly, Benjamin Shircliff, Alexander White and Jarrett Vardaman.

Casey Curtis and Aaron Gibbons were promoted to the merit rank of Lieutenant.

Scott Mamaril was promoted to Battalion Chief.

Also during the Council meeting, Jeanette and Tim White and their two children presented ZFD with a $1,000 donation in memory of Jeanette’s brother, Kevin Sanders, who died at the age of 33 in an ammonium nitrate explosion at a fertilizer plant in West, Texas on April 17, 2013.

With these funds, ZFD purchased a personal thermal imaging camera to be used primarily by Division Chief of Training Mark Hart.

“Mark will be able to use the camera during training evolutions to keep an eye on firefighters’ safety,” said Chief VanGorder. “In true emergencies, Mark is the department’s safety officer and he will have access to the camera to ensure firefighters are safe on scene.”
