SEPTEMBER 4 & 5 CLOSED FOR LABOR DAY WEEKEND        

 

SEPTEMBER 1,8,15,22,29          ANIMAL TALES & TRAILS

Wednesdays            10-11 am.                       

(Ages 3-6)            Join us for our special weekday animal tales & trails program for preschoolers.   We will have animal talks & hikes.  Registration is required 317-873-8950 or znaturecenter@aol.com.  There is no weekday parking at the center.  Free.

 

SEPTEMBER 7                   "WET & WILD CREEKSTOMP"

Tuesday            1-3 p.m.                       

(All Ages)            Join us for a "creek stomp" at Creekside Nature Park (on 334 across from Lions Park).  We will provide the buckets and nets to find fish, crawdads, and other creatures that live in Eagle Creek.  Wear old tennis shoes or sandals that can get wet.  Adults must accompany children. Registration is required 317-873-8950 or znaturecenter@aol.com .  Free.

 

SEPTEMBER 19                  HANDS-ON MONARCH PROGRAM

Sunday                        2 p.m.                       

(Ages 5 & up)              This program is intended for children in grades K-5 wanting a close-up view of Monarch caterpillars, chrysalides, and adult butterflies. Watch a caterpillar "snarf" some milkweed, see the beautiful "golden crown" of the chrysalis, and enjoy the elegant wings of the adult Monarch. We will search the grounds for evidence of Monarchs and hope to tag and release adult butterflies.  Program is free.  Monarch caterpillars will be available to take home for $2.  Registration is required 317-873-8950 or znaturecenter@aol.com.

 

SEPTEMBER 24                  ANIMAL ADVENTURES: MONARCH BUTTERFLIES

Friday                        1-2 p.m.                       

(Ages 3-6)              Meet at the library for a fictional story then walk to the Zion Nature Center to learn the real facts about monarch butterflies.  Free.  Dress appropriately for the weather.  Weekday parking is not allowed at the nature center.  Register at 873-3149 Ext. 11600 or www.zionsville.lib.in.us.

           

SEPTEMBER 25                   "BEE-OLOGY"

Saturday             2 p.m.           

(All Ages)              Learn some interesting facts about honeybees and even taste some honey while taking a close look at our observational beehive.  Free.

Home and Garden Programs for Adults

"R & R" VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Join us in our mission to Remove invasive plants and Replant with natives.  The Zion Nature Center is seeking individuals and groups to help restore the small woodland garden behind the center.  The woodland garden will be used for educational programming.  This is a great opportunity for students or Master Gardeners to earn service hours and make a difference!  Contact Therese Burkhard at 317-873-8950 or znaturecenter@aol.com.

Birthday Parties

Host your child's next birthday party at the Zion Nature Center.  Reserve our program room for two hours on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.  The cost is 2$/person; $50 minimum.  Includes a 30 minute live animal program.  Please call (317)873-8950 for details.

Eagle Elementary Nature Club

Eagle Elementary PTO sponsors Nature Club after school at ZNC.

Therese Burkhard, Naturalist,  shares some fun bird facts with Nature Club members from Eagle Elementary School.  There are 50 members (1st -3rd graders) in the club for the 2009-2010 school year.

 

Nature club members enjoy making pinecone bird feeders at the center.  Jennifer Price volunteers her time to coordinate Nature Club participants for the 2009-2010 school year.  Other moms from PTO volunteer as well.
