Beginning March 20, Zionsville Fire Department will be conducting a 10-week Recruit Academy for 12 new hires and four recently hired firefighter/EMT’s. Division Chief of Training, Mark Hart, is the lead instructor.
Topics ZFD will cover during the training include: history of the fire service, fire behavior, firefighting tactics, emergency medical services, rescue and more. To create a unique, well-rounded educational opportunity for the students, ZFD partners with many local agencies and companies such as: Boone Co. Health Department, Boone Co. Sherriff’s Office, JetStar, Indy Executive Airport, Beck’s Hybrids, Boone County REMC and FedEx Ground.
The training schedule for new recruits is 40 hours/week. Upon completion of the Recruit Academy on May 25, these new firefighter/EMT’s will be well suited to meet the needs of the Town of Zionsville.
A local income tax approved last year took effect at the beginning of this year and helps support local public safety agencies. Both the Zionsville Police Department and Zionsville Fire Department are beginning the recruitment and hiring process. Because of these new hires, ZFD will be compliant with NFPA (National Fire Protection Agency) 1710 staffing criteria.
