Zionsville Nature Play Days

From June 8th to 16th, 2019 Indiana Children and Nature Network (ICAN) is encouraging everyone across the state to participate in Nature Play Day events. The goal of Nature Play Days is to get kids outside and remind families that nature play is important and can happen close to home.

Kids! Download your Zionsville Nature Play Day Passport and become a Nature Play Day Superstar! Collect a stamp at each program you attend. Collect three stamps and turn your completed form into the Zion Nature Center to collect your prize.

Saturday, June 8 - Zionsville Nature Play Day – Fuzzy Bumblebee Craft

  • When: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
  • Where: SullivanMunce Cultural Center, 225 W. Hawthorne St.
  • Ages: 4 years and up with an adult

Buzz on over and create a fuzzy bumble bee with yarn and repurposed materials. Learn a bit about our local pollinators and the plants they like to visit.

Saturday, June 8 - Zionsville Nature Play Day – Campfire and S’mores

  • PROGRAM IS FULL
  • When: 7 – 8 p.m
  • Where: Zion Nature Center, 690 Beech Street

Enjoy an evening hike through the Zion Nature Sanctuary as we search for nocturnal sights and sounds. We will end the evening roasting marshmallows and enjoying gooey s’mores around the campfire.

Sunday, June 9 - Zionsville Nature Play Day - Teddy Bear Picnic

  • PROGRAM IS FULL
  • When: 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
  • Where: Lincoln Park, 41 S. 2nd Street

Grab your favorite stuffed animal friend and your lunch and join us for a picnic on the Lincoln Park lawn. After lunch we’re going on a bear hunt! In the event of rain this program will move to the Zion Nature Center.

Sunday, June 9 - Zionsville Nature Play Days – Family Dog Walk

  • When: 3 – 4 p.m.
  • Where: Turkeyfoot Nature Park, 4795 Turkey Foot Rd.

Grab your favorite furry family member and join us on a group dog walk. We’ll explore the sights and sounds along Eagle Creek. The trail is stroller accessible.

Monday, June 10 - Zionsville Nature Play Days – Squirt Gun Painting

  • When: 10 - 11 a.m.
  • Where: Zion Nature Center, 690 Beech Street

Help us create nature masterpieces by painting with….SQUIRT GUNS! We recommend you wear clothing that can get stained. Our final artwork will hang in the Zion Nature Center until the end of the month. We will have supplies for 200 children. When we are out, we're out!

Monday, June 10 - Zionsville Nature Play Days – Bug Safari

  • When: 1 – 2 p.m.
  • Where: Elm Street Green, 165 N. Elm Street

Bring your bug net, or borrow one of ours. We’re going on a safari in our backyard. Join us as we search high and low for six and eight-legged creatures.

Tuesday, June 11 - Zionsville Nature Play Days – Freddy the Fish

Join the Boone County Solid Waste Management District and Freddy the Fish as we explore water pollution at its effects on our environment as we follow Freddy downstream.

Tuesday, June 11 - Zionsville Nature Play Days – Creekstomp - CANCELLED

  • This program is cancelled due to high/fast water
  • When: 1 – 3 p.m.
  • Where: Creekside Nature Park, 11001 E. Sycamore Street
  • Ages: 4 years and up with adult

Join us as we explore Eagle Creek. Wear clothes and shoes that can get wet. Nets and buckets are provided.

Wednesday, June 12 - Zionsville Nature Play Days – Jump to Jupiter

  • Register at www.zionsvillelibrary.org
  • When: 11:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
  • Where: Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library, 250 N. 5th Street

Meet at the Library to learn about the solar system and then get a chance to jump through the solar system! We will begin at the library and end up in the Nature Sanctuary.  Dress for the weather, caregivers required to stay with children.

Wednesday, June 12 - Zionsville Nature Play Days – Kicking it With Fire Fighters

  • When: 1 - 4 p.m.
  • Where: Mulberry Fields Park, 9645 Whitestown Road

Join the Zionsville Fire Department crew at Mulberry Fields for a memorable game of kickball. There will be activities for all ages. Come ready for a good time!

Thursday, June 13 - Zionsville Nature Play Days – Maplelawn Open House

  • When: 9 - 11:30 a.m.
  • Where: Maplelawn Farmstead, 9575 Whitestown Road

You’re invited to the Farmstead for hands-on activities to create crafts and toys that would’ve been available to children in the 1930s, as well as old-fashioned games our grandparents and great-grandparents would’ve played when they were children.

Thursday, June 13 - Zionsville Nature Play Days – Dino Egg Hunt

Stop by the Library to catch a dinosaur and then head over to the Nature Sanctuary for a roaring good time! Dress for the weather, caregivers required to stay with children.

Friday, June 14 - Zionsville Nature Play Days – Outdoor Storytime

Meet at the Library with a toy car that can get dirty!  We will read stories on the library lawn and race and play with our cars.  After we play we will be able to put the cars through the car wash!  Dress for the weather, caregivers required to stay with children. 

Friday, June 14 - Zionsville Nature Play Days – Wetland Explorers

  • When: 1 - 3 p.m.
  • Where: Zion Nature Center, 690 Beech Street

Join the Zion Nature Center staff as we explore what flies, crawls and hops in the wetland. Wear clothing that can get muddy and wet. Nets and buckets are provided.

Saturday, June 15 - Zionsville Nature Play Days – Leo Club Play Day

  • When: 9 – 11 a.m.
  • Where: Lions Park Gazebo, 115 S. Elm Street

Join the Zionsville Alpha Leo Club at Lions Park and help make the park beautiful with fun activities including rock painting, flower planting, a match game and more!

Saturday, June 15 - Zionsville Nature Play Days – Nature Faces

Join the Nature Center staff on a nature hike through the park. We’ll collect items along the way. Then let your imagination soar as you create your unique nature portrait.

Grab your clue sheet in the Zion Nature Center and solve the riddles to find the letterboxes hidden on our trail. Each letterbox contains a stamp and ink pad to prove you found it. Find all the letterboxes and claim a prize.

  • When: 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.
  • Where: Zion Nature Center, 690 Beech Street
  • Ages: Ages: 1 – 3 years with an adult

In celebration of Father’s Day, our popular Mommy & Me program is all about dad this month! With dad by our side, we’ll discover who lives in our backyard and explore with our senses.
