The Zionsville Police Department has immediate openings for the position of Patrolman.

Lateral Applicants:

To be eligible for the lateral entry program, the applicant must not be removed from their previous full-time law enforcement position for more than one year at the time of the application submission. Employment previously held may include any local, county, state, and/or school police that enforces state law and has arrest powers. Applicants will also be required to have current Law Enforcement Academy Certification either from ILEA or a comparable academy/certification body. This is to include states other than Indiana. Upon being hired, out of state laterals will be required to meet the ILEA waiver requirements as governed by the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board.  

Later transfer candidates will progress through the hiring process more efficiently by being exempt from various portions of the process. Additionally, candidates will benefit from the program as they will have access to an accelerated field-training program, and will be eligible for department benefits quicker than previously non-certified officers.

About Zionsville Police Department 

Zionsville Police Department currently employees 35 full-time sworn police officers. The manpower is spread between the Uniformed Services Division and the Criminal Investigations Division. The Uniformed Services Division is responsible for traffic and criminal patrol, calls of citizen complaints, and ensuring the general safety of the town. The Criminal Investigations Division is responsible for the investigation of any crimes committed and reported within the town.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a high school graduate
  • Shall possess an Indiana Driver’s License or have the ability to obtain one if a conditional offer of employment is extended
  • Shall be a U.S. Citizen
  • Shall be at least 21 years of age, and not have reached age 36 by date of hire if not enrolled in PERF 77. Military personnel who have 20 years of credible service have the maximum age requirement waived to 40 years and 6 months 
  • If offered a position, candidate must obtain residence within a contiguous county to Boone County, Indiana within 180 days
  • Correctable Vision to 20/30 in each eye
Immediate Disqualifiers

  • No Marijuana or Derivative use within past 3 years
  • No Amphetamines, Methamphetamines, Barbiturates, Cocaine, Anabolic Steroids within past 5 years
  • No LSD, PCP, XTC or any designer drug within past 7 years
  • No history of Opium/Heroin, injection of any controlled substance, or manufacturing, cultivating, transporting, brokered, or having sold controlled substance
  • No conviction for domestic violence related offenses
  • No conviction for OWI within the past 5 years
  • No pending misdemeanor or felony cases
  • No dishonorable discharge from the military
  • No more than 3 moving violations or two preventable crashes in the past 3 years
  • Must not falsify or omit any part of the employment application
  • Must not falsify, fabricate, or fail to report job related information
  • No felonies committed as an adult, juvenile cases will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis
  • Recent or excessive license suspension or revocations will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis

Salary Increases and Base Pay are determined by yearly performance evaluations

  • Probationary Officer: (<1 Year Experience) – $47,700.00
  • Patrolman I:  (1-2 Years Experience) – $53,000.00
  • Patrolman II: (2+ Years Experience) – $61,200.17
